Belgian top laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau has been suspended for the next series in the LTA Playoffs against Vivo Keyd Stars. Additionally, his prize money will be donated to initiatives that support women in gaming.

Sexist remarks

The suspension comes after Bwipo went live on Twitch and was asked about female pro players, to which he gave his very honest opinion.

The Belgian went on to explain that he thought there “is a time of the month where you shouldn’t be playing competitive games as a woman” and that maybe women should have a “different account [to play on] when they’re going through that [their period].”

Bwipo has come out on X and apologized for his remarks and said that he “fucked up” and that he would take steps to “reflect, listen, and do better.”

It is not the first time Bwipo has drawn criticism recently, having clashed with Cloud9 over a post-scrim KBBQ dinner and repeatedly sparred with 100 Thieves top laner Niship “Dhokla” Doshi.

The lead-up

The KBBQ incident

In early September, after a series of scrims with Cloud9 that FlyQuest lost, Bwipo vented in an interview with LCS Profiles:

“C9 5-0s us in scrims and goes to go get Korean fucking barbecue. Like, hello? How can I even focus?”

Former pro player and current Twitch streamer Christian “IWDominate” Rivera pushed back, saying it was a pre-booked team dinner, not a victory party, which made the blow-up look like a reach.

Since then, KBBQ has become a meme in the League community, with teams and players joking about it and keeping the topic alive.

The Dhokla rivalry

The friction with 100 Thieves top laner Niship “Dhokla” Doshi dates back at least a year, when Bwipo took a public shot on X, quipping that Dhokla “dropped an Equalizer on his own match history,” alongside a screenshot of six straight Rumble losses.

Tensions flared again after FlyQuest beat 100 Thieves in the LTA North Grand Final, when Dhokla bypassed Bwipo in the handshake line.

Dhokla later said on X that he would not fist bump someone who had, in his view, flamed his career while preaching perseverance.

Bwipo responded with a longer post about his own perseverance and competitive standards.

After Bwipo’s remarks on women in gaming, Dhokla has once again woken up on X making fun of how fast everything has escalated.
