LoLNow.gg spoke to MKOI’s top laner Alex “Myrwn” Pastor Villarejo after their 2–1 series win over Team Secret Whales. The Spanish top laner shared his thoughts on six-man rosters, confidence after losing the LEC Finals, and being so close to Worlds 2025 playoffs.

Preparing for a 6-man roster

With MKOI’s 2–1 series win over Team Secret Whales, Europe’s second seed is now just one Bo3 away from the Worlds 2025 knockout stage. After starting the Swiss Stage 0–2 with losses to KT Rolster and G2, it did not begin well for MKOI.

Even going into Worlds, you would not fault MKOI if their confidence was not the highest. Their last match was a 0–3 loss to G2 in the LEC Finals. For Myrwn and the rest of the team, it was about resetting and forgetting.

” I don’t think losing the final 0-3 really mattered as long as you react well to it and I think it’s what we did.”

With the G2 loss behind them and the team now one win from the playoffs, they have a good shot at advancing, but the match against TSW was far from typical.

Team Secret Whales is one of the few teams still actively using a six-man roster, rotating between two top laners, Hiro02 and Pun. Hiro02 is known for carries and being a resource-heavy top laner, while Pun is more of a tank or utility top laner. Myrwn and MKOI prepared for both scenarios.

“We knew Pun plays more tanks and expected Sion in game 1, so we were confident.”

Pun played games 1 and 2, with Hiro02 subbing in for game 3. MKOI began on the back foot after losing the opener and stood one game from elimination. When TSW brought in Hiro02 for game 3, Myrwn was ready.

“When they swapped to Hiro02 for game 3 on blue side, we expected Rumble first pick. We adapted, banned it, and got a good matchup.”

Hiro02s Jayce didn’t stand a chance against the unkillable K’Sante as MKOI took the series.

One win away

The win sets up a wild 2–2 bracket at Worlds 2025. TES, CFO, FlyQuest, and MKOI are confirmed for the draw later today, with one of 100T or T1 and one of BLG or VKS to be added to the pool.

For Myrwn, the victory keeps a potential miracle run alive. MKOI could go from 0–2 to 3–2 and qualify for playoffs if they win their match on October 25.

“Now we have another chance to make it out of Swiss and reach the top eight.”

Although they started 0–2, they have maintained their belief throughout the tournament.

“Against KT we had a great mindset and game plan. We slipped up, but the confidence and gameplay were there. We need to bring that into whoever we face in the 2-2 bracket and we can get the win.”

One key for Myrwn and MKOI is the ability to move on from losses. They did not come into Worlds low on confidence after the LEC Finals, and they did not lose it after going 0–2, which is exactly what they need if they want to reach playoffs.

“I try not to care too much about how we played the last series. We focus day by day. If we do things correctly on the day, we will be ahead.”
