Ahead of Karmine Corp’s match against Fnatic, LOLNOW.GG spoke with jungler Martin “Yike” Sundelin. He explains why KC believe they can beat Fnatic again, what changed in their discipline after Spring, the team’s simple Worlds target, and why he saves pocket picks for playoffs.

Beating Fnatic

Karmine Corp (KC) fell to the lower bracket after a 1-3 loss to G2, then bounced back to beat Vitality 3-1 and secure their spot in Madrid. Even with Fnatic sweeping GIANTX to book their own ticket, Yike is confident KC can take them down.

“The last two playoffs we beat them [Fnatic]. I hope we can do it a third time.”

KC swept Fnatic in the Spring Playoffs before losing to MKOI, who went on to win the split by beating G2 in the final. Winter was different. KC nearly got reverse swept by Fnatic after going up 2-0, but they closed it out in Game 5.

KC’s uneven spring and the loss to G2 this summer might have a simple explanation, according to Yike.

“After you win a split, you go into the next split more lazy. You feel like you’re going to win again, and then you lose because you just don’t work as hard.”

Worlds ahead

With Worlds on the line, Yike says KC are fully focused on Fnatic.

“The most important thing is that we qualify [for Worlds]. We have to focus on Fnatic, that’s the main thing.”

On Worlds goals, he is clear in what would be KC’s first appearance: get out of Swiss, and address the rivalry with NA.

“Assuming we get there, just getting out of the Swiss stage is the main objective, because the last two years Europe has not done it and NA did it twice, and it feels very bad for us.”

Yike also hints, that he might have saved some pocket picks for the LEC Finals, just like Gwen jungle last year.

“I always love to save champions for the playoffs. Last year I was playing Gwen jungle. Even though we lost, it was a fun champ. I hope I can show some more fun junglers.”
