MKOI’s Canadian mid laner Joseph “Jojopyun” Pyun spoke candidly about the team’s shortcomings, the challenge of facing G2, and Europe’s place at international events when we caught up with him ahead of the LEC Finals.

EU at international events
The last two Worlds have not been kind to European fans. Twice, no European team made it out of the Swiss Stage, while both NRG and FlyQuest reached the playoffs at the same events.
The disappointing results for EU have pushed a narrative that the region’s teams are chokers, a label Jojopyun somewhat agrees with.
“Maybe Europe has had a choking problem, but the level is high.”
Still, he expects Europe’s best teams to deliver.
“The top European teams are very strong, similar to other regions. I have good expectations for us and also for FlyQuest.”
A possible G2 matchup
While MKOI still has to beat Fnatic to meet G2 in the finals, it’s clear from the way Jojopyun speaks that he’s already anticipating that clash.
“We all acknowledge that us and G2 are the best teams in the LEC right now. I expect us and G2 to meet in the finals again.”
MKOI already lost to G2 earlier in these playoffs, but Jojopyun sees that defeat as a turning point rather than a setback.
“If we had beaten them [G2], maybe we wouldn’t have focused as much on our weaknesses. Now we’ve been fixing those problems, and we know how we want to play.”
MKOI entered this split as reigning LEC champions, and for Jojopyun and his four Spanish teammates, defending the title on home soil would be something special.
“Winning back-to-back would feel amazing. It would really cement us as the best team this year. Doing it in Madrid would make it even more special.”
