LOLNOW.gg spoke with GIANTX toplaner Eren “Lot” Yıldız after the loss to Fnatic, a result that ended their playoffs run and Worlds hopes. The Turkish top laner shares why game 1 slipped away and how it set the tone for the rest of the series.

Mental difference

Anyone who watched the Fnatic series could see GIANTX’s mentality dip after game 1. GIANTX led by more than 10k gold, secured two Barons and an Elder Drake, then lost a single dream fight and unraveled with a string of poor decisions that swung the game.

“We came in prepared, but after game 1 our mental slipped. We were not fully boomed, just started choking. Losing the first game affected us a lot.”

Lot says the team tried to reset, but nothing stuck.

“We tried to reset, splashed water on our faces, tried to get a good vibe. Too many of us were affected. That decided the series.”

The tilt showed. Game 2 stayed close until midgame, while game 3 seemingly just slipped away, a map GIANTX felt they could have won.

“If we close game 1, maybe game 2 is still hard, but game 3 likely goes our way.”

Season progression

GIANTX didn’t qualify for Worlds and they choked against Fnatic, but that doesn’t mean it was a season to forget. The team showed great progress on stage. Lot himself thought they had a chance to win the series against Fnatic.

“We improved a lot. I was pretty sure we could win today. We are strong in scrims, not enough in officials. We need to make it happen on stage.”

For Lot it’s now back to solo queue and practice for next season.

“Improve and practice, that is all I can do.”

And while GIANTX didn’t qualify for Worlds, Lot will be watching from home and even thinks the LEC has a good shot this year.

“I think EMEA has good chances. Top teams look close in level. I will be watching from home.”
