Heretics

Week 4 settled the bracket. G2 closed Group B with a clean 2–0 over SK to finish a perfect 4–0 in series, 8–0 in games. Heretics outlasted BDS 2–1 to keep their run alive and push SK out of playoff contention. Over in Group A, KOI swept Vitality to lock first place, and GIANTX handled NAVI 2–0 to secure third.

Highlight of the week

Game 1 was not the cleanest from MKOI, but if Elyoya had not out-smited Lyncas for the first elder drake, it could have spiralled out of control completely. Therefore this week he has secured himself the highlight of the week, not with the flashiest play, but with an important one.

Monday, August 25th

SK Gaming 0–2 G2 Esports

G2 entered the series with a chance to finish perfect in both series and games with a 2–0, so there was added pressure on the 16-time LEC champions. They took Game 1 16–3 in kills with a 10–1 tower lead, stacked four drakes to none, and ended before the 27th minute in a clean game where SK never had a real window.

Game 2 was closer and slower paced early. G2 closed it 8–6 in kills with an 8–3 tower lead, four drakes to one, and a Baron around the 24th minute to shut down SK’s mid-game tries. It still took until the 31st minute to finish, but the 2–0 means G2 are 4–0 in series and 8–0 in games, heading into playoffs undefeated.

Team BDS 1–2 Team Heretics

Team Heretics struck first to keep their playoff hopes alive. They took the opener 18–5 in kills and finished around the 30th minute, keeping BDS from ever getting close to the win.
In Game 2 BDS answered after a hectic 40-minute game, 20–12 in kills with a 10–3 tower lead, four drakes to two, and a Baron to even the series.

Heretics closed out the series in Game 3 with a 17–7 kill line, a 10–4 tower edge, four drakes to none, and despite BDS sneaking the Baron they controlled every front-to-back by the 35th minute, with Carlsen dominating on K’Sante.

This result means both BDS and Heretics qualify for playoffs, and SK Gaming are out in 5th place in Group B.

Tuesday, August 26th

Team Vitality 0–2 Movistar KOI

This was the matchup of the week for a reason. If either team 2–0’d the other, they would claim 1st place in Group A, secure upper bracket, and avoid G2 in the first round of playoffs.

MKOI’s Game 1 was a juggernaut. They won 18–8 in kills with a 10–3 tower lead, took six drakes including two Elders, two Barons, and ended in 42 minutes, though it felt like they could have closed earlier.

Game 2 was much cleaner from MKOI. They finished 20–6 in kills and 10–1 in towers, claimed two drakes and the only Baron to complete a very one-sided sweep. For Vitality, they almost lost the game in draft, picking a very difficult composition that they did not have the level to execute.

Natus Vincere 0–2 GIANTX

With NAVI already out of playoffs, not many expected them to push hard for the win, and Game 1’s draft showed it. Picking Akali for Larssen and Olaf for Adam into Lot’s Sion meant no one on NAVI could kill him.

GIANTX controlled Game 1 wire to wire, 22–10 in kills with a 10–5 tower lead, four drakes to two, and a Baron around the 36th minute to break open the base. Even with NAVI’s awkward draft, it still took GIANTX 41 minutes to close.

Game 2 was crisp. GX wrapped it 16–5 in kills with a 10–3 tower lead, took Baron around the 25th minute, and closed despite NAVI’s early dragon stacking.
