W ability gets reworked for early game impact

In the upcoming patch, Fizz’s W will see multiple adjustments:

  • Passive and on-hit damage increased – making Fizz stronger in early trades, even if E is maxed first.
  • AP ratios reduced by 5% – builds focused heavily on AP will deal slightly less damage.
  • Damage now accumulates into a single number – providing clearer feedback for players.
  • No longer applies bleed damage to structures – focusing the ability on champion damage rather than tower shredding.

These changes aim to make Fizz more effective during early power spikes while limiting the dominance of full AP tank setups.

Ultimate sees higher base damage but lower AP scaling

Fizz’s R – Playful / Trickster is also receiving tweaks:

  • Base damage increased – the large shark at max level now deals 630 damage, up from 500.
  • AP ratios reduced – scaling goes from 60–90% depending on range, down from 80–120%.

This means that while the ultimate hits harder as a base value, full AP builds will see reduced damage compared to previous scaling.

Early game power spikes and item synergies

Riot designer Rad explained that Fizz currently struggles to trade effectively early. These changes give him stronger early-level trades with W available and more impactful on-hit damage during combos. Blackfire Torch has also become a more potent item for Fizz, enhancing these early skirmishes.

Some players worry the changes might revive the old “tank Fizz” meta, but the goal is to make Fizz more lethal when actively engaging champions, rather than dominating with full AP builds late game.

Player feedback and discussion

The community is already weighing in on the adjustments. While some view the changes as a buff to early aggression, others feel the reduced AP ratios may nerf late-game potential. Overall, the patch aims to balance Fizz’s early game effectiveness with controlled late-game scaling, encouraging skillful trades rather than overpowered burst from full AP items.

What do you think about the changes? Do they feel like a buff, or is it a slippery fish situation? Share your thoughts and theorycrafting, and remember: Fizz mains, it’s your time to test those W combos.
