The top 1–0 matchup featured LCK’s first seed against LPL’s second. Draft already brought surprises as AL secured Poppy for Kael, a champion banned 11 times at Worlds so far.
The action began mid, where a gank from Tarzan’s Qiyana gave Chovy’s Ryze first blood, but Shanks’ Taliyah instantly traded it back.
Top side, Ruler’s Kai’Sa and Duro’s Alistar tried to collapse on Kael and Hope’s Corki, but AL turned it around. They took down Duro and, with both mid laners rotating, the fight ended 2–1 for AL.
The first major teamfight erupted at drake. Gen.G had control, but a perfect Poppy ultimate knocked Canyon away and Tarzan secured the objective. Gen.G were not done, though. They chased down four members of AL and, while AL claimed the drake and reached soul point, Gen.G took four kills and the Rift Herald in return.
The fourth drake fight felt inevitable. Gen.G held strong positions, but a well placed Taliyah wall and another Poppy ultimate turned the skirmish into a 3v5. AL secured the soul and the drake, edging ahead by about 500 gold.
Elder Dragon came next. Another clutch Taliyah wall set up the secure, and AL won the follow up fight. They ran down mid, won again in Gen.G’s base, and completed a huge upset over the tournament favorites.
