Riot Games has released a major Dev Update on February 25, addressing community concerns and announcing significant changes to League of Legends. In the video, Andrei “Meddler” van Roon and Pabro acknowledged player frustration, reaffirming Riot’s commitment to putting players first.
This update includes:
✅ The return of Hextech Chests
✅ A massive 50% reduction in champion prices
✅ Changes to the Exalted Mordekaiser skin and Mythic Essence rewards
✅ Clash returning to a monthly schedule
✅ Your Shop & Blue Essence Emporium confirmed to return
Let’s break down everything coming to League of Legends in the next few patches.
TLDR:
- 10 Hextech Chests and Keys per Act—8 on the free Pass, 2 additional with Honor
- Hextech Chests will be replacing the free Battle Pass skin
- Consolidating all Key Fragments into Keys, rounding up leftover fragments
- The Blue Essence cost of all champions will be reduced by 50%
- Delaying Sahn Uzal Mordekaiser Exalted skin while we make improvements
- Increasing the quality of Battle Pass skins going forward
- Adding 25 Mythic Essence to the paid Battle Pass to replace one paid pass skin
- Clash is going back to a monthly cadence
- Your Shop is coming back in Patch 25.06
- The Blue Essence Emporium will return in Patch 25.07

Mastery previously could earn players up to 52 chests per year, and battlepasses (Battlepi?) going forwards + honor will grant up to 60 chests per year. –BarackProbama
🔹 Hextech Chests Are Returning!
Riot admitted that removing Hextech Chests was a mistake and is bringing them back in Patch 25.5.
📌 How Hextech Chests Will Work Now:
- Players can earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and Keys per Act.
- 8 Chests will be added to the free Battle Pass, replacing the Seasonal Skin and 1350 RP skin rewards.
- 2 Chests will be tied to the Honor system to reward positive player behavior.
💬 “Chests make your time in League feel rewarding, and we want to ensure they’re accessible regardless of different playstyles.”
This means Hextech Chests will no longer be tied to Champion Mastery, making them easier to obtain for all players.
🔹 Champion Prices Are Being Cut by 50%
One of the biggest issues for new players is the cost of acquiring champions. To make League more accessible, Riot is cutting the Blue Essence cost of all champions by 50% starting in Patch 25.05.
📌 What’s Changing?
- Every champion will cost 50% less Blue Essence, making it much easier for new players to build their roster.
- Riot acknowledges that the recent discussion around Blue Essence and Champion Shards emphasized the need for this change.
This isn’t the only change Riot plans to make to improve champion accessibility, but it’s an important first step.
🔹 Exalted Mordekaiser Skin Delayed, Mythic Essence Increased
Riot is delaying Exalted Mordekaiser to make sure it meets expectations. Additionally, future Exalted skins will take longer to release, meaning we won’t see one every Act.
📌 Changes to the Battle Pass Skins & Mythic Essence Rewards:
- One paid Seasonal Pass skin will be replaced with 25 Mythic Essence.
- Riot is reducing the number of champions getting Seasonal skins to improve overall skin quality.
- The Act 2 Battle Pass will feature skins for Darius, Sion, and Talon.
These changes address concerns that Mythic Essence is too scarce, making it easier to collect for exclusive skins.
🔹 Clash Returning to Monthly Tournaments
Riot had previously announced fewer Clash tournaments, but player feedback has led to a complete reversal—Clash will now run every month.
📌 Upcoming Clash Schedule:
- March: ARURF Clash
- April: Summoner’s Rift Clash
💬 “For those who love Clash, it feels like League at its purest. Teams strategizing and competing in a tournament-like setting is something we don’t want to take away.”
Riot is asking for feedback on how to mix Summoner’s Rift, ARAM, and rotating game mode Clash events throughout the year.
🔹 Your Shop & Blue Essence Emporium Returning
For players wondering when they can spend their Blue Essence, Riot confirmed that both Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium will return.
📌 Expected Dates:
- Your Shop: Patch 25.06
- Blue Essence Emporium: Patch 25.07
This means players can finally use their saved-up Blue Essence on limited-time skins, chromas, and other exclusive rewards.
Final Thoughts – Riot’s Commitment to Change
This Dev Update shows Riot is actively listening to player concerns and making meaningful changes.
✅ Hextech Chests return to make gameplay feel more rewarding.
✅ Champion prices are cut in half, making it easier to build rosters.
✅ Exalted skins will take more time to develop for better quality.
✅ Clash will now run every month instead of being reduced.
✅ Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium are confirmed to return.
💬 “Getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game.”
