Patch 25.09 is set to go live on Wednesday, April 30, marking the start of Season 2 in 2025, and this one’s a massive shake-up. Riot is completely overhauling the map’s theme, dropping a whole new batch of Spirit Blossom skins, and dishing out champion buffs, nerfs, item reworks, and even some long-awaited anti-griefing tech.

Let’s break it all down.

New Spirit Blossom Theme & Skins

We’re officially saying goodbye to Noxus-themed Summoner’s Rift and stepping into the serene, vibrant world of Spirit Blossom.

  • The map itself is getting a full makeover—bright, colorful, and mystic.
  • Champions receiving Spirit Blossom skins:
  • And for something different: Pool Party Twitch is also joining the fun.

“The darker theme was getting a bit stale. This colorful refresh is exactly what we needed.” — LoLNOW.gg

Role Binding Changes: Jungle & Support

Two roles are getting hard-coded changes to improve clarity and enforcement:

Jungle:

  • Assigned players now automatically start with Smite.
  • Smite is locked to jungle role only.
  • You must buy a jungle item to access the rest of the shop.
  • Jungle items can no longer be sold.

Support:

  • Assigned players now automatically start with World Atlas.
  • Non-supports cannot purchase it anymore.

This change should stop non-jungle Smites and cheesy double support starts once and for all.

Riot’s New Griefing Detection: 10x More Bans Incoming

Riot is turning up the heat on griefers, AFKers, and cheaters.

  • New detection will spot fake activity, like walking in base to avoid AFK detection.
  • Reports now reveal the name and tag of punished players.
  • Riot expects 10x more bans thanks to this system.

Major System Changes

Champion Kill Bounties:

  • Base kill gold scales with level:
From flat 300 → now up to 420 gold.
  • Bounty suppression is now always fully active for losing teams.
  • Bounties accumulate and drop only after leaving combat.

Death Screen Upgrades:

  • Ally camera buttons to spectate teammates.
  • New UI and repositioned timer.
  • And yes, less gray—finally.

Item & Rune Changes

Ignite:

  • Buffed post-level 6.
+25 damage per level instead of +20.

Unflinching:

  • Flat 10 resists after CC instead of scaling 6–12.

Rod of Ages:

  • Nerfed: Health 400 → 350, AP 50 → 45.

Boots of Swiftness:

  • Movement speed reduced from 60 → 55.
  • Swift March upgrade now gives adaptive damage instead of % MS.

Symbiotic Souls:

  • Empowered recall removed.
  • Base MS buffed from 40 → 45.
  • Upgrade MS ratio down from 10% → 8%.

Spell Slinger Shoes:

  • Magic Pen reduced from 8% → 7%.

Feats of Strength (Boot Upgrades):

  • Tier 3 boot upgrades now cost 250 less (750 → 500 gold).

Biscuits:

  • Heal now: 20 + 2% max HP.
    • Scales up to double healing when under 30% HP.

Jungle Objectives: Atakhan, Void Grubs, and Rift Herald

Atakhan:

  • Now just one form: Thornbound.
  • No more revive or crown buffs.
  • New reward: Spiritual Purification:
    • Kills grant Spirit Petals.
    • Petals give 25% bonus XP + adaptive damage.
    • Kills cause AoE 15% current HP damage and 60% slow.

Void Grubs:

  • Only spawn once now, at 8 minutes (was 6).
  • Max buff now from 3 grubs, not 6.
  • Bonus turret damage from 3 grubs equals what 4 gave in the past.

Rift Herald:

  • Spawns at 15 minutes instead of 16.
  • Solo players no longer deal 50% less damage if recently hit by Herald.
  • Swipe damage reduced (300% AD → 125%).

Champion Buffs & Nerfs

Buffs:

  • Annie: More Q damage, cheaper W, and better passive magic pen.
  • Ashe: Increased Q scaling and attack speed.
  • K’Sante: W base damage up significantly.
  • Leona: Longer passive duration and lower Q/E mana costs.
  • Morgana: Bigger shield and R damage + MS buffs.
  • Oriana: Cheaper Q at all levels.
  • Shen: Q max HP scaling buffed.

Nerfs:

  • Gwen: Armor scaling, jungle damage, and Q AP ratios nerfed.
  • Kalista: HP and AD nerfs due to pro play; E damage reduced.
  • Naafiri: W cooldown increased; E scaling nerfed.
  • Yorick: Mistwalker damage taken increased from 100% → 150%.

Final Thoughts

Patch 25.09 is one of the biggest seasonal updates we’ve had all year. The move to Spirit Blossom is a breath of fresh air, griefing is being actively tackled, and jungle/support role enforcement is finally happening. Add in some juicy champion tuning and item shifts, and we’ve got a meta-defining patch on our hands.
